PBA Electrical & Renewables & Octopus Energy - Bringing Green Energy to Kent

Octopus Energy’s mission is to bring affordable, green energy to as many homes as possible.

This is where we come in – PBA Electrical & Renewables are Kent solar, battery and EV charger installers and will take off some of the pressure Octopus is facing in providing a high level service to their customers.

We have been through rigorous vetting by the partner team to ensure that we are in-line with their business plan and represent Octopus to their high standards.

If you are an Octopus customer, you may well see us in the future installing solar on your Kent home. If you aren’t an Octopus customer and want to claim a £50 credit on your energy bill then please use this link - https://pbaelectrical.octopus.energy

FAQs about solar installs

How do I know if I will benefit from solar panels?

  • Our team will arrange to visit your home and look through your energy usage, this alongside your roof space will indicate the savings and payback period for panels

Is it worth having batteries installed at the same time as the solar panels?

  • From a savings point of view – yes, absolutely.  Battery not only allows you to store energy you have generated but also sell back to the grid any excess you don’t need.
  • Having batteries installed at the same time as your solar panels can often lead to smaller bill at the end, this can be due to suppliers offering us bundles and also a second charge wont be applied to fit the batteries.

Do I need permission to install solar panels?

Solar panels come under permitted development so do not require planning permission unless:

  • You are having them installed on a flat roof.  Typically frames are used to angle the panels towards the sun meaning the panels will protrude more than 0.2 meters above the roof slope which is contrary to permitted development guidelines
  • You are installing on a listed building.  You need to gain listed building consent as well as planning permission.
  • Conservation areas.  If you live in a conservation area, it is possible to have panels installed but you must seek permission, it is a grey area and is at the discretion of the local authority.

What measures can I take to ensure my panels work effectively?

  • Number 1 is bird proofing – even if you don’t suffer with birds nesting, the warmth of the panels will attract many species.  We offer free bird protection with our packages; we don’t want to see your investment become unfruitful due to nesting birds.
  • Overhanging trees – this is something we will discuss with you and comes under our shading report, any overhanging trees can cause mess and build up over time so maintenance is key.
